Greetings from the land of things that Bite you!

Greetings from the land of things that bite you, Australia (my exclamation key is not working on my keyboard, so feel free to insert an exclamation mark, where you like).

I am guest blogger Brett Curzon. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, my aim is to keep you awake, semi conscious at best, for the duration of this blog.

gI_79179_Bill-iconI am a member of the Interact Community. I have written and illustrated and no doubt like a lot of you reading this, a builder of your very own App. BuildingBill the Fish was a great experience, once again, no doubt like a lot of you, your brain felt like it was being used as a punching bag by Mike Tyson at times; learning a new program can do that to you.

Interactive books is a new field. Who would of thought when writing a book and developing it as an App that a little boy or girl in Iceland could download it and be interacting with your book with their frozen little fingers. This just blows the mind.

The potential to reach people that you couldn’t dream of reaching is now possible.

But the facts are that every other man and their dog is doing the same thing. So how do you get noticed?…. If you know the answer to that, please let me know.

I have found it to be hit and miss, I just keep throwing things around, sooner or later you are going to hit someone, I mean something. I have found humour works well, getting someone’s attention with an email or anything in general. For example sometimes when I send out an email for promotion, I put in the subject title – ‘Don’t Read Me Your Mad if You Do’ or ‘Is Spam just Electronic Ham?’ or some other crazy thing.

The idea came from a person that sent their submission into a publisher and instead of putting a $1stamp in relation to price of the parcel, they put 100, one cent stamps on it, you can guess who got noticed. I guess the key is to try it all.

There are lots of different ways that cost very little, or cost nothing at all, to promote your app. There is a marketing term called Guerrilla Marketing. While some of these ideas won’t apply to app’s, they will get you thinking.

Below is a link to a blog that will get you thinking out of the square.

OK time to spice it up a bit, and squash some of these untruths about Australia . Are there big sharks down here with lasers strapped to their heads? The answer is both yes and no…. only some sharks have lasers, these can be found down in the southern waters.

These sharks can also detect tuna on your breath, from a tuna sandwich that you had two weeks ago.

Does the water go down the toilet the other direction, than it does in the northern hemisphere? The answer: I haven’t hung around long enough to deny or confirm this one.

Does our prime minister have a very nasally voice and flaming red hair? Yes, this is true, but none of us here can believe it.

Are there are more sheep here than people? This is true, and it is also a very tasty fact.

Kangaroo – The name for the Australian marsupial Kangaroo came about when some of the first white settlers saw this strange animal hopping along and they asked the Aborigines what it was called. They replied with ‘Kanguru‘, which in the native language meant ‘I don’t know‘. This is true, and also hilarious.

Well I hope I have cleared up a few things, there are plenty more, but I will finish with a funny story from my kids:

My daughter heard someone talking about a psychic .

She asked ‘what’s a psychic?’

My son pipes up ‘That’s the guy that hangs around Batman’

I said ‘What?’

My son says  ‘yeah Robin, he is Batman’s sidekick’

Thank You.
